about
This is the first full-length song I ever wrote.
It's a piece about those times when you can't outswim the sea - external or internal. When your instinct is to fight or take flight but in order to keep going you have to tap into a deeper, wiser layer - it's about how sometimes, the soundest thing to do is to ask for, and have faith in, the help of others.
The lyrics of the song were inspired by a sea-rescue I witnessed in Portugal and a subsequent conversation with one of my brothers about the importance of knowing the movement (the currents and tides) of a body of water before you go in. And how, depending on the particular sea, it may be a much safer bet to go against your better judgement, conserve your energy, and wait for help.
The video features that brother, the one who really knows and respects the sea, and captures the joy and life-force he gets from it.
I am fortunate enough to have a stable income through other means so any $ contributions made in purchasing this track will be donated to the work of women's refuges in the UK.
